Just as we are passionate about providing excellent health care to our patients, we at Total Family Care are as passionate about mentoring interns on their path to becoming experienced, compassionate medical professionals.  We mentor students from across health care – future physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Dr. Lightman’s article “The Externship as a Step to a Professional Position” was recently featured on the Touro College and University system blog, where he shared his insights on proactive steps students can take to maximize their internship/externship fieldwork placements. Having trained many students over the years (we mentor students from across health care – future physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants), Dr. Lightman and our team have developed successful strategies for interns from focusing on real “hands-on” knowledge, to learning to ask about employment opportunities. And many of these steps are transferrable to other professional training programs.

If you or a student you know are pursuing an intern/externship read more about Dr. Lightman’s suggestions on how to make the experience truly successful and rewarding. Thanks to Touro College and all of the dedicated teachers and medical students out there. Together we can create positive learning environments and more caring and experienced future medical professionals needed in the world.
